from the dept. According to the Associated Press, a four year old Thai boy will be granted a special three year Visa to remain in the United States. Phanupon "Got" Khaisri entered the country with a group of immigrant smugglers who were using him as a prop. The visa that was granted to this AIDS-stricken little boy was especially created for victims of human trafficking. The child will become a ward of the state due to his parent's inability to care for him. His father has passed away and his mother is a heroin addict in their home country. After the three year visa is expired, his guardians, who have yet to be appointed, will have the option to file for permanent residence. I'm glad to see that this little boy will have the oppertunity to stay in America and recieve the nurture he deserves. It's very sad that this child has already been exposed to so much crime and drug abuse in his short life. I hope that our medical professionals will be able to give him a quality of life by treating his AIDS to the best of their abilities. Hopefully he will be adopted by a caring family and not have to remain as a ward of the state, but I don't think that anything could be worse than what he has already been through. < Are the Snowy Plovers really Endangered? | Wandering Californians >
