These packages are hosted here, mostly because there was no real upstream site any more. The source for these packages is maintained in my local SVN Repository since they all required updates for various reasons (mostly to conform to GCC/Glibc updates so they build properly with current build systems under Gentoo Linux).
GWOCSS - The GNU release of Winds On Critical Streamline Surfaces, a diagnostic windfield model suitable for complex terrain with a flexible I/O structure (sample data included). The main author and user of WOCSS over the years has been Francis Ludwig, with many other contributors, as evidenced by the long (and still growing) list of WOCSS-related publications. See this master's thesis by Shawn Gallaher for detailed information about the model (also the list of publications in the README file). This overview document was originally written for a data and modeling CD that was part of a field experiment done several years ago, so some of the details have changed. That said, it's the best overview currently available that's not an official journal publication.
WOCSS provides multiple levels of wind output, as well as optional gridded data such as pressure, potential temperature, and bulk Richardson Number. As seen in the above thesis and other publications, the model has fairly minimal and flexible data input requirements, and can be used in numerous practical applications, such as:

XGKS-PMEL - The PMEL version of XGKS, an X-windows port of the ANSI Graphical Kernel System. The sourceforge version doesn't seem to have had much activity for several years, so this PMEL version has been bundled with Ferret as a required dependency (one of their primary visualization tools). The version hosted here is basically the PMEL version with updates for building with newer versions of gcc, glibc, binutils, etc.

liblist - A generic list/stack/queue package (written in C) with a nice reference paper included. This relatively simple library was written several years ago by Bradley Spatz and released under the GPL. The version hosted here has minor updates to make it conform to the newer GNU toolchain, and is another required dependency for Ferret (it's also interesting to compare this library to the Ada versions of the list, stack, and queue generic packages hosted here).
